Welcome, I’m Karen Ferguson!

Author of the Questions for Kids picture book series, freelance writer, and owner of Illuminate Communications. I’m a lover of words, family, animals, and Jesus. I’m also a passionate advocate for Truth that transforms lives! Oh, and did I mention dark chocolate… 😉

My mission is to use the power of words to inspire and encourage readers on their faith journey, helping them discover and settle into their unique, God-given identity and purpose.

Whether it’s a book, blog post, or digital product, I create content designed to touch the heart and nourish the mind, body, and spirit.

Here’s a little bit about me:

  • Books have transformed my life more than once, which is the main reason I write.

  • You could call me a “multi-passionate” professional: I hold an MBA and have a background in sales, accounting, education, and Human Resources. I’m an author and freelance writer, and served as the worksite wellness coordinator for a large community college at one time. Full disclosure: It’s taken me awhile to figure out exactly “What I want to be when I grow up.” 😉 But writing has always been a part of it.

  • The library is one of my favorite places to hang out and I’ve been known to bring home 10 books at a time.

  • I enjoy moving and staying active because it’s what keeps me feeling good, but you won’t find me spending hours at the gym.

  • I adore and am energized by people, but I also crave time alone to process and reflect.

  • One of my absolute favorite writing pieces was the story of how my mom and dad met, published with my own twist, which earned Top 50 in the Karen Kingsbury Family Fiction short story contest.

  • I’m a wife to my very best friend, mom to two beautiful grown daughters, mom-in-law to two fine young men, grandmom to the cutest boy in the world, and pet parent/grandparent to one exuberant Golden Retriever and a super sweet mini Aussie-shepherd. Whew! That was a long sentence, I know… 🤗

What People Are Saying about Guess How Much God Loves You

A wonderful children’s picture book that I believe should be added to every public, church, and home library! Our world needs books that encourage children to seek answers rooted in biblical truth, and Karen does a seamless job using inquisitive first-grader Lucy Lu and her Papa Joe to show kids it’s okay to ask questions because asking questions is how we start to build our relationship with our Creator.

What a delightful book to help youngsters understand how much God loves them! With beautiful illustrations and a simple, but creative way to help young children understand the story of how our world was created by God, this charming picture book will become a family favorite. I highly recommend this book for young children”

Karen has created a soon-to-be treasured picture book that has more than surpassed her desire to make a difference in the lives of her readers. Guess How Much God Loves You can most assuredly be used as a tool for parents (or grandparents) to springboard into meaningful discussions with their young ones if/when difficult situations arise. Children will also be assured of having a Heavenly Father who will never leave nor forsake them, no matter what happens!

Guess How Much God Loves You is a breath of fresh air among all the fantasy and wizardry novels that are out there for kids to read today. Ferguson has put together a creative piece of prose that is not just for kids – but maybe the adults in their lives too – of how and why God loves each of us. In this crazy mixed up world we are living in, ““Guess How Much God Loves You,” is a much needed affirmation.”
